I have been playing the new mum role for the past 6 months and I think I’m flying at it! Or at least this is what I tell myself!
The truth is it gets easier every day but I will never forget the amount of research I did the last few weeks before the birth on what I should buy in order to have our home ready for the new arrival!
With my little experience as a mum and with the tons of research I did while pregnant I’m here to share with you my FIVE top essentials that you should have for your newborn.
1. Bugaboo stroller

𝕆𝕟𝕖 𝕨𝕖𝕖𝕜 𝕒𝕤 𝕡𝕒𝕣𝕖𝕟𝕥𝕤🥰 One week ago we were dreaming of what it would be like to be parents! Now that we have dived deep into life with a newborn I will report back that it's the best thing and the most intense thing we have ever experienced! No complaints about the sleepless nights and the million questions we have, as it's all part of our new roles! All these will build the memories we get to have with her. 😍 We already had our first rides with our @bugaboostrollers Cameleon in the neighborhood visiting the local breastfeeding clinic and hospital. Never thought that pushing a stroller makes parenthood even more real. 😊 ———————————————————— #justkasssi #newparents #bugaboo #mamasandpapas
Strollers are expensive and I’m sure that this will be your very first investment so as myself you would have researched a lot! There are lots of strollers in the market and I’m sure that the one you have picked is great, but let me share with you the reasons we selected ours.
We decided that the Bugaboo Cameleon 3 would be the one for us, also the fact that we found it with a huge discount it made the decision a lot easier.
The fact that you can take it apart and put it back together in no time and that the basinet is made in that way that you can fold it store it and it won’t take up any space was something that made us like it. We live in a small one-bedroom apartment and being able to compact and store the bassinet and seat when we don’t need them was a big plus. You have to consider that you will only need the bassinet for the first 6 months of your baby’s life so it is wiser to not take up too much space when stored. Also, the bassinet is safe for your baby’s naps but it is not certified for overnight sleeping.
We also liked the fact that you can revamp it by buying different coloured pieces. For example, you can change the hood, apron and footmuff and you can have a new stroller for baby number 2.
Another stroller that you can consider if you don’t have enough space is the Yoyo, however, if you are quite tall like my husband it would feel a bit awkward to push.
2. Clevemama Pillow Pod
Lack of space is a big issue in our household, everything we buy needs to be folded and stored when not in use. So when we researched for an alternative place for the baby to sleep apart from the cot, we had to go for something that after the first 6 months can be stored away taking less space.
Usually, the first thing that would think of buying is a Moses basket but this is something you can use till your baby is 3-4 months old and then you will be stuck with it as it takes a lot of space. So this was out of the picture even if I would have loved having one as they look so pretty and cosy.
My research showed that pillow pods were a great alternative as they have so many different uses and we ended up investing in a Clevemama Pillow.
I was very hesitant for this purchase as it comes at the price of 85 euros which seems a lot for just a pillow but I have to say that it was the best investment we made and we use it till now that Amaryllis is 6 months old.
As Amayrillis was a very small baby when she was born her cot seemed extremely big for her to sleep in so that is where the pillow came handy. She would sleep in it and it would make her feel cosier and would giver her less space to move.
I also had it with me when I was in the living room and I would safely place her with the pillow pod on the sofa.
I also found it very useful and safe for co-sleeping. So the time I was breastfeeding her to sleep she would be sleeping in the pillow eliminating the danger that co-sleeping could have.
I even use it til now as I have removed the cover and I just use the outer pillow to make her cot cosier and prevent her from rolling in her sleep and in a few weeks that I will stop using it I can simply store it away taking very little space.
3. Spotify Lists
I guess no one of you ever thought that Spotify would be one of the must-haves for your newborn, but for me, Spotify and my playlists were one of my essentials even for the birth.
Spotify has some amazing baby music lists and I have found one with classical music and babies lullabies which is the only one that relaxes her and helps fall asleep. Also, it has been a saviour even for me as the soft relaxing classical music kept my sanity during the very first months calming my nerves and giving me the strength to carry on.
4. Room thermometer – Gro Egg
If you don’t have one already I’m sure you will be looking to get one. The Egg thermometer that changes colour as the temperature drops or rises can help you a lot when it comes to the baby’s room temperature. Keeping your newborns temperature at the right level is crucial as you don’t want it to overheat.
5. Baby carrier
I don’t know how we would survive the first month without our Baby Bjorn baby carrier. It was the only place she would fall asleep and the only place she would stop crying. I had to wear it even indoors to relive my arms from holding her. As she was a small baby she didn’t want to be put in her stroller and this would be the only way to go to places and have her quiet and happy.
I hope you found these useful and I would love to know which are the top 5 essentials for your newborn.
