We all live busy lives packed with responsibilities and somehow tend to forget that our stressful routines can take a toll on our health. When we are busy the first thing that can go out of the window is our diet. It’s all too easy to go for quick solutions to stop our hunger, opting for fast and not so healthy foods, whilst forgetting that sugars and carbs can make us feel out of balance and fail to sustain us in the same way that a healthy meal would.
“When it comes to starting the day right I find that smoothies are the easiest way to get good nutrients in.”
A few months back I tried Herbalife Nutrition to bring some balance to my diet (read all about it here). While trying it out I realised that having a shake for breakfast worked well with my routine as I would usually skip breakfast and live on black coffee until lunch time! Using Herbalife Nutrition Formula 1 shakes made me realise how easy and healthy it is to add a smoothie into my diet, especially after working out in the mornings.
Drinking a healthy shake for breakfast is so easy and convenient, but I’m conscious it can also become a bit repetitive and if you’re low on time and ideas, you could end up drinking the same flavour shake every day.
Sometimes a little inspiration is all that is required to encourage you to explore new recipes and to help with that, Herbalife Nutrition has partnered up with chef Rachel Allen to bring us two delicious smoothies which I got to try out and I am reporting back in this post.
Herbalife Smoothies inspired by Rachel Allen
If you don’t already know, Rachel Allen, she is a famous chef with many cook books and shows as well as running classes at the famous Ballymaloe Cookery School. Her two recipes for Herbalife Nutrition – Fruit Burst and Green Goddess are healthy shakes with some tasty and nutritious ingredients to throw into your formula 1.
{adding oats to the Berry smoothy which I loved}
“My favourite was the Fruit burst shake which also has oats in and is the perfect shake for breakfast. I would have never thought to add oats into a shake but I am so happy I tried it as it was delicious and very filling.”
{I always use my Nutribullet to make any kind of smoothies – this was one of the best wedding gifts we got!}

Here is how I got on when I tried the smoothies at home
Fruit burst
This shake has oats and berries and is my favourite healthy breakfast choice. I did tweak the recipe a bit as I am not a huge fan of dairy products so I replaced the yoghurt with almond milk and I also replaced the apple with mango since my local shop didn’t source any. I am sure that if the shake was as delicious with my twist then it would be 10 times better with mango!
See the ingredients below so you can make it at home:
Serves 1
• 26g Formula 1 Raspberry & Blueberry flavour
• 150g natural yoghurt
• 100g mango
• 75g seasonal berries
• 15g porridge oats
• 1 tablespoon lemon or lime juice
• 150g ice
Blend all the ingredients together till completely smooth. Taste and add a little more lemon or lime juice if you wish.
The second smoothie that I did was full of greens and it was so fresh and light to drink
Green Goddess
This was a delicious and very light shake and again I added almond milk instead of dairy milk. I would prefer to have this as a snack after the gym or in the evening as it is very refreshing. I would have never thought to add celery or cucumber to a shake so I am happy that I tried this. It’s definitely shown me that anything goes (as long as you like the flavour of the ingredients) and there are so many ways to make Formula 1 your own.
{adding cucumber to this smoothie was something new to me but I loved it}
See the ingredients below so you can make it at home:
Serves 1
• 26g Formula 1 Vanilla flavour
• 100g raw celery, roughly chopped
• 100g raw cucumber, roughly chopped
• 100g raw spinach, roughly chopped
• 3 tablespoons lemon or lime juice
• 250ml milk
• 150g ice
Blend all the ingredients together until completely smooth. Taste and add a little more lemon or lime juice if you wish.
After trying these recipes, I will be definitely adding them to my routine. It was so nice getting to experience new shakes, and also the fact that my Formula 1 arrived in a huge picnic basket made me think that we could easily replace wine or fruit juices with Herbalife Nutrition smoothies and keep healthy even when we are planning a picnic! How’s that for an idea?!
