Ten reasons that will make you visit Santorini this summer

Since visiting Santorini for my honeymoon in September (read more about it here), I have been getting so many messages by all of you, readers and friends about how much you want to go there and that it has been a destination that you have been dreaming of for years.

So here are my best ten reasons that will make you want to visit Santorini this summer.

 1. Tick it off your bucket list

You have been wanting to visit Santorini for years, you have been discussing it with your friends and family for so long. Now it is time to tick it off your list and say that this summer you finally went to your dream destination. Start saving today and book your holidays for early May or late September so you get better rates avoiding the high season of June – August.

Everyone knows about the amazing sunset of Santorini. It is so hard to describe the energy you feel, the colours you see and the peacefulness that surrounds you when the sun deeps into the sea. You have to visit this place to truly experience it.

 3. The spectacular view

The view is the first thing that you will notice on the island and the main thing that will captivate you. Lose your self in the view and enjoy every single moment while there.

4. Take the best photos ever

The caldera view and the sunset light will make you want to explore your creative side. Even if you are not into photography you will not stop taking photos when you get to the island. There is no doubt that the photos you will take there will somehow get printed and find a place in your house to remind you of this magical holiday.

5. Delicious Food with a view

If you haven’t tried Greek food you are missing out, but there is something even more special when it comes to local food. Make sure you try out fava and the local baby tomatoes and if you manage to combine food and view then it gets even better.

6. Local Wine

Santorini is known for its local wineries and its unique range of wine like Assyrtiko. Book a wine tasting and enjoy an evening introducing yourself to what the island has to offer. Read more about wine tasting in Santorini here.

7. Beautifully designed hotels

Apart from the food, wine and the view, in Santorini, you can find some of the most beautiful hotels in Greece with unique architecture, build in the rocks and in caves. Even if you cannot afford a room in these hotels, make sure to pay a visit for breakfast or dinner so you can see what these places have to offer to every guest.

8. Nowhere like it

Let’s be honest, there is nowhere in the world like it. The energy that the island has is present and you feel it from the very first moments there. Every single moment spent on the island is unique and whether you go there to explore, to party or to fall in love I can assure you that you will love it.

9. Oia

Oia is the second most famous village on the island. It is known for it is amazing sunset but it is also known for the amount of restaurant and shops you can find there. Spend an evening in Oia and make sure to pay a visit to the most famous bookstore of Atlantis build inside the rock.

10. The view of  Fyra

It is spectacular to think that the capital of the village or in Greek chora, is built at the edge of a cliff. Visiting Fyra and seeing the architecture of the shops, restaurants and hotels is breathtaking. Go to the highest point of the village and enjoy the amazing view.

While you are there rent a car and explore it, make sure to go to Pyrgos, Kamari, Imerovigli and Fyrostefani.
