For the past few months, I have been trying to stay healthy, not that I have ever been unhealthy as I don’t smoke, I don’t drink that much and I always try to eat low-fat meals. My guilty treats have been replaced by healthy snacks such vegan cookies or protein bars, but I do allow myself to indulge every now and then in some dark chocolate. I aim to be in bed by 12.00 the latest, except if I am working late, and I am on my laptop by 9.00am starting my work day. Working from home can have its benefits but in the same time, the drawbacks are that you will need to discipline yourself a lot and stay focused without getting distracted from housework.
This so well balanced lifestyle can be so easily turned upside down every time I travel. As much as I love getting an early flight so I can have the day ahead of me on my destination, a 4:00 am start can be hard for my body and can easily set me back for at least two days. Unfortunately, I am not the type of person that will sleep in planes so this always affects my travels.

In my latest trip to Greece, I lost this balance so much that I ended up being sick visiting the doctor twice and spending a tonne of money on medicine. The bad thing is that all this happened from lack of sleep from eating a bit unhealthily and from being constantly on the road for the week as I had to be in three cities during the space of 7 days. Sometimes there are not many things you can do to avoid being in circumstances that will affect your balance but at least what I have learned is that I have to respect my body and as I get older I have to respond to its needs for sleep and rest.
It is easy to say that we want to live a healthy life but there are many ways to get out of this zone. The difficult part is sticking to it, and this is what I try to do every day.
After all being healthy is not an option is a lifestyle.
